About Us
From Project to Program...

MRI Studios Inc. began delivering services in 2018 through a fiscally sponsored project, launched by Media Rhythm Institute, as a way to expand arts development to creatives who had difficulty securing opportunities due to eligibility and accessibility.  The primary audience for this work included  young artists who lacked  consistent arts education in school and community settings, and young adults, 17-21,  who were still developing their talents, yet ineligible for traditional school based and age restricted programs. The goal of the project was to engage artistically inclined young people with tangible experiences that would refine and strengthen their skill level.

From 2018-2021,  the project facilitated workshops in community settings by matching practicing local creatives with groups of young artists in order to provide insight into  the creative  industry; strengthen their skillset; and apply skills to practical settings. Some of the highlights that came from the early years of the organization include the establishment of the Latin X Hip Hop Program, a Spanish based production program for documented and undocumented youth; and the development of an internship pipeline for high school graduates interested in joining arts organizations and companies.

In late 2021, the project transitioned to its own entity, becoming MRI Studios Inc,  an artist governed non profit organization. By 2022, the organization recognized the overlapping needs between youth artists and adult creatives and decided to amplify its impact by serving the larger community of creatives, both young and old.  Over the last 2 years, the organization has moved into its own physical space in the Bromo Arts District  and through a large  network of volunteers and supporters  has had  steady momentum in carrying out its mission to provide platforms for learning, for all underserved artists.

Currently, the organization continues to roll out  new initiatives such as the Youth Arts Council and an annual  Film Festival geared towards Black filmmakers a part of our adult-focused initiatives to adapt successful youth-focused programs (e.g., art classes, training, or mentoring) for adult audiences.
